IN A season that is not as legendary as the others, this past week’s results on Idols SA gave the show a bit of a pulse with the eviction of Kyle Deutschmann (pictured). It was a shock result given that the singer was one of the best of the remaining contestants.

“I really don’t know what happened. I though last week went well for me performance-wise so I really wasn’t expecting it, but I guess these things happen. I am glad that it happened at this time as I had worked my hardest. I wouldn’t have wanted it to happen to me on a week where I felt I could have done more,” said Deutschmann.

To be fair, this is the second time the singer has tried his luck on Idols SA. In the eighth season, Deutschmann made it to the Top 32. There-after he took time to regroup and returned stronger, only being voted off in the Top 5 this time, an achievement he is happy with.

“I wouldn’t change anything that I did on the show. I think winning is great, but what’s important to me is what happens afterwards as that’s where my goal is. I am going to remain in Joburg for a bit to meet with a few producers. My manager has been getting a few offers so I think we should be fine. I also submitted a track to Kwesta and he really loved it so I am hoping something comes out of that,” said a confident Deutschmann.

Looking at the remaining contestants, Deutschmann took a guess at who will win Idols SA.

“I think London (Louw) has a good chance at winning this. He has been through the worst of the show yet that only made him stronger and he has survived it all,” he said.

Speaking about his upcoming album, Deutschmann stated that there is a lot in store, but his fans will have to wait a little.

“I’ve been recording a lot of stuff along the way, but I can’t release any of that because the rules state that we need to wait until the winner releases their album,” he said.

Of all the nights that Deutschmann could have left, he feels that last Sunday night was the worst as he had prepared his best set.

“I had planned to perform Loliwe (Zahara) and Teenage Dream (Katy Perry). The general performance was dedicated to the late Senzo Meyiwa whom I used to play football with when we were teenagers. I was really disappointed that it never got to be,” he said.

The remaining contestants on the show are Bongi Silinda, 24, Lize Mynhardt, 21, and London Louw, 24, who all stand a good chance of winning.

• Idols SA airs every Sunday at 5.30pm on M-Net (DStv channel 101) and Mzansi Magic (DStv channel 161).
