Only a few hours after her final 3Talk show aired on Monday, presenter Noeleen Maholwana-Sangqu took to social media to say she was already bored.
“This retirement thing is not going to last very long. Not even 24 hours and I’m bored,” she tweeted.
Maholwana-Sangqu presented the SABC3 weekday show for 12 years before deciding to call it quits.
SABC spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago said Maholwana-Sangqu would be remembered for her liveliness and dedication.
“She’s someone who’s really lively, who really made the show what it is,” he told The Star.
“In the 12 years of her doing the show, I think she was only sick for a week… Even on the days she did not do the show, she was part of the show. That can only mean dedication and nothing else.”
Maholwana-Sangqu told the broadcaster last year that it was time to take a break.
“No other presenter has done 12 years continuously, and this is a talk show that aired every day, Monday to Friday. You then understand that when she said it was time to rest, we agreed with her,” Kganyago said.
He said they were retiring the show because it was synonymous with Maholwana-Sangqu. “Like with soccer, when someone’s done a great job, we’ll say we’ll retire the jersey so no one else can use it… We’re doing the same thing because no one else can fill her shoes.”
The SABC would show the best of 3Talk for the next two weeks before a new show started on May 4.
Kganyago could not reveal details of the show.
