BELIEVE it or not, we are almost at the end of what’s been an exciting season of Big Brother Africa. This time a lot has happened that we were pretty excited about. The show was bound to be a success given that it survived a number of challenges that took place during the year.

The biggest one was the fire that burnt down the Big Brother house at Sasani Studios. This, at first, almost doomed the new season but, as we saw, they built another studio and Big Brother Africa went ahead.

Then there was Ebola, which we did not expect to spread as rapidly as it did. There was no relation to the Big Brother Africa brand until reports came in that South Africa had restrictions in place on the movement of people in some of the African countries that had had reports of Ebola in their territories. So the number of contestants was less than usual yet the producers still found ways of getting new contestant from previously featured countries and even added new ones like Rwanda.

We are now in the penultimate week and it is sad that some people will be leaving. After a tiring week on Big Brother Hotshots as the housemates were pranked with the help of 10 former contestants, nominations resumed as usual on Sunday evening. After the head of house, Macky2, made his “add” choice on Monday night, eight housemates are now up for possible eviction.

Trezagah was automatically nominated after he moved during a “freeze” task. Joining him are Tayo who received four nominations; Sipe; Sheillah; Idris and Goitse with three each and JJ with two.

Macky2 also found himself up with four nominations, but was immune because of his head of house win earlier in the day. It is unfortunate that he added Ellah to the list because the Ugandan has never been nominated by her housemates.

Voting has opened and runs until Sunday morning. The more you vote for your favourite nominated housemate, the better their chance of staying in the house and being named the winner.

• Big Brother Africa airs all week on channels 197 and 198.
