TRACE Sport Stars have dedicated this month to extreme sport and commissioned the sassy Poppy Ntshongwana as a guest presenter for the four weeks.

“I was asked to be a part of it and since I love my sport I was keen on seeing how it would turn out,” she said.

Given that she is a radio personality, with not much TV presenting experience, Ntshongwana figured this would be a great learning curve.

“It’s a different type of format and I am keen to see how my radio skills will apply here. Overall, it is a learning curve for me and the sport part is a bonus. There was no question that I was going to jump onto the opportunity,” she said.

But you might wonder why of all themes Ntshongwana could present, she went with extreme sport month.

“I am not the extreme one. The people whom we will feature on the show are the ones who do extreme sports. I do have a few extreme traits in my personality. Those come out in the show here and there, but generally the show is about the people we feature and not myself. We are just making a dedication to their lives and their professions,” she said.

A number of professionals will feature on the show to show off their amazing skills.

“We will be covering anything from surfing to the stuff people don’t regard as sport and just fun. The people who are featured on this show are excellent at extreme sports. The show is more like a lifestyle documentary, which looks at the culture around a given sport. We venture into why people do it, how to get into it and the risks that come with it. We have the best of each given discipline showing us how it is done,” explained Ntshongwana.

Having said that she has “extreme traits” in her personality, Ntshongwana backtracked when asked what she is willing to do among the activities we will see on her show.

“I swam with sharks. I am a bit of a daredevil if in the right place. If I don’t have to think about it and I just do it, then I am okay with it. But you can’t have me think of something for about two weeks – then I’d wonder if I am going to live or die and would never do it. Also, I want to do it in groups so that if I am going to die there will be a few of us going,” she chuckled.
