South Africans want porn and they want to make it too, judging by a call for entries to a reality TV porn series.

More than a thousand people registered this week to audition for the controversial show Porn Stars, which will begin auditions in Joburg next week at the Penthouse store in Woodmead, before moving to Bloemfontein, Port Elizabeth, Cape Town and Durban.

Gigi, owner of Joburg strip club Lollipop Lounge and winner of SA reality show Survivor, will be one of the judges, with Afrikaans writer Yolanda Barnard and porn magazine Hustler’s Adam Gordon.

Local soapie star Gert van Schalkwyk has been pencilled in as the presenter of the reality sex show, which is being organised by Tongelong Productions, which makes Hustler’s local blue movies.

“Wow, we never anticipated such a great response,” said producer Donovan van Wyngaard. “To be honest, it took us by surprise that such a large number of people would be interested in the show, but we are extremely pleased.”

Applicants must be over 18 and can choose between five categories: toy or masturbation, lesbian, anal, oral and straight sex.

“Basically those coming to audition will be put through a thing called a ‘couch test’, which is used in Hollywood pornography auditions. Participants will have to perform sexual acts, and judging from their performance, we will decide who will go through.”

There will be two winners, a male and a female who will get roles in Hustler’s 2011 end-of-year film and R5 000.

SA porn actors are paid about R2 500 for a day’s shoot plus royalties from sales. Porn Stars winners would be offered a bigger purse, he said.

“The winners will also receive a contract ensuring one film role every six weeks for the next year.”

He added that the competition was open to all, regardless of race, sexual orientation or size, “as long as they are over 18 and have a certificate proving they are STD- and HIV-free”. - Independent on Saturday
