KARABO Mogane, of Mpumalanga, may have won the Idols first prize last night, but the one who shone brightest was judge Somizi Mhlongo who dazzled with a golden hairdo.

Twitter faithful were not splitting hairs when, through pictures, they compared the hairdo to Game of Thrones’s Tyrion Lannister, horror movie character, Chucky, and a thatched beach umbrella.

Despite his reputation for always having a flamboyant appearance, Twitter-users couldn’t help having the last laugh.

“Lord can you take Somizi’s hand and lead him to a mirror to show him the error of his highlighted ways,” tweeted Jason Lee McCall.

Twitter then really started warming up. Sentletse tweeted: “Some Pick n Pay cashier is missing her wig because of Somizi,” while Young DLC said: “When your mama can’t go to her stokvel meeting because her wig is missing... .”

Lebo Mosetlhi chirped: “Somizi’s hair looks like a wet circus puppy. And not the cute type”

King Cheu said: “Apparently SA Police Service is looking for Somizi’s hair stylist. This weave is an insult to the hair industry”

There were other highlights to the show though as musicians such as Judith Sephuma and Mi Casa entertained the sell-out crowd at Carnival City.

The show, in its 11th season, is the biggest so far. Finalists Mogane and Mmatema Moremi, from Limpopo received 16 million votes during the past week. The season was also the biggest in total votes with 78.8 million votes cast. This is more than triple last year’s 24.3 million votes.

On his victory, Mogane was initially dumbfounded and said: “I don’t know what to say.” After regaining his composure he thanked the people who supported him. Mogane walked away with R700 000 and an assortment of prizes.

On Twitter, his supporters were delighted.

Crewlove28Nov said: “I am happy with the results. Sooooooooooo happy!”

Mimmy! said: “That moment when Karabo Mogane wins. And you go outside and hug a tree because you’re just too happy.”

Auditions for the 12th season of the show start on January 30 at the Playhouse in Durban.
