Siba Mtongana has come a long way and it seems she is not about to stop anytime soon.

From being the food columnist for Drum to having a show on Mzansi Magic, no one foresaw her doing wonders on Food Network, but since it was written in her stars, that gig came up and she is doing very well there.

Now that it is the festive season, the bubbly chef who loves all things South African will bring us Siba’s Festive Table on Christmas Day.

In her past conversations with Tonight, Mtongana has said that her inspiration comes from the diversity of being South African. There are so many culutures within one country and that makes for a tasteful platter that can be enjoyed by everyone.

For those who plan to feed a large family and have no idea how to, at 10.10am on Christmas Day on Food Network (DStv Channel 175), Mtongana will be in her kitchen ready to teach you how you to make it happen.

Be it couscous, bunny chow, a braai or whatever you call indigenous, be sure to catch Mtongana who will simplify it for you.

The thing about her is that she has had years of success and believes that by trying your hand at anything in the kitchen, with practice and determination you will get it right.

To show off her diversity, Mtongana hosts the show Cooking With Siba on Food Network in which we see her call in local celebrities and ask them to cook their favourite dishes with her. Now, if she did not know a thing or two about the kitchen this feat would be pushing it on her part because the celebs would not enjoy her food.

Some of us are so lazy we will probably order in some food during the Christmas season, which is really sad because there is so much you can do with your own hands. If you look at the contents of your pantry, you might be surprised by what you can come up with if you tried.

Mtongana is your inspiration and if you tune into her show, you will never order in again. In fact, you could become so good that you might get your own TV show.

Until then, learn from the master and if you get it right, the reward will be a sumptuous meal.

Siba’s Festive Table, Christmas Day, 10.10am on Food Network (DStv 175).
