Cape Town -

This year’s Idols finalists, Vincent Bones, 30, and Bongi Silinda, 24, were welcomed by adoring, screaming fans at Canal Walk

for their last public performance before tonight’s live finale.

Judging from cheers, Nelspruit’s Silinda, who sang a powerful rendition of Keri Hilson’s Knock You Down, was the favourite.

“My support in Nelspruit has been mindblowing. You see how Vincent has his following. Mpumalanga gets behind me. They go to UCT and they came here to support me,” she said after performing at the mall.

She said that her church, Church On The Hill, had been very supportive.

Silinda is keen to sing in her home language. “I do sing in vernacular. I aspire to Afrotraction, because he sings in Swati.”

She hope winning idols will give her the opportunity to travel the world and meet her idol, Jazmine Sullivan.

Her favourite past Idols winners are Musa Mashiane from last season and Khaya Mthethwa from the season before.

“Musa comes from the same background as me in Mpumalanga.

“Khaya comes from a spiritual background like me.”

Bones, is also a fan of these winners.

He sang Sam Smith’s Stay With Me for the crowds.

“My comfort zone is sitting down. I sang Purple Rain sitting down. Most of the time I’m standing up and dancing (on the show),” said Bones.

Bones, who is originally from Eldorado Park, works as music director at the Eagle Christian Centre church in Pietermaritzburg.

He said he was surprised at his progress in Idols, and had not expected to make it past the first stage of auditions.

He hopes that a win will give him a chance to release a CD/DVD album.

He hinted at another brand launch.

M-Net yesterday announced the pair’s song choices – Silinda will sing Amy Winehouse’s Back to Black and Bones will sing Miguel’s Adorn.

They will also perform a duet to Ariana Grande and Nathan Sykes’s Almost Is Never Enough.

Meanwhile M-Net says the show is at all-time high in terms of votes.

“To date close to 20 million votes have been cast in the current 10th season of the reality talent competition. Not only is this figure 173% higher than last season’s total votes including the final; it’s also a new all-time Idols SA voting record,” it said in a statement.

l The Idols SA season 10 finale airs live on M-Net and Mzansi Magic tonight at 5.
