This weekend, Sifiso Nene hopes to bring the ha-ha to baby mama drama. Simply titled Baby Mama Drama, the comedian will perform his first one-man show at the Lyric Theatre on Saturday.

Having broken into the industry in 2009 when he won David Kau’s So You Think You’re Funny reality TV competition, Nene took his time orchestrating a one-man show.

“I had to wait all these years, I had jokes, but wasn’t ready for a one-man show. There’s nothing wrong with waiting to be mature in your craft instead of getting on stage and not knowing what you’re doing. I also wanted to have substance and a human touch to the show so that it’s not just another one-man show that isn’t memorable.”

Baby Mama Drama certainly has a human touch because a lot of people all over the world have been on the receiving end of this drama, been the drama or been the daddies causing the drama. Nene himself has gone through his fair share of this drama with the mother of his 6-year-old child.

“That’s what inspired the title of the show,” he laughs, “but I also had the observation that I wasn’t the only person going through it.”

And if you’re wondering, Nene’s baby mama “understands that I do comedy so I can speak for me on this”.

“Besides,” he continues, “other people’s baby mama drama has so much more meat compared to my baby mama. In the past, when I performed, I could do a 30-minute set and do just one joke about baby mama drama and people would remember that one joke. That’s because they relate to it.”

So if you are in the throes of this drama and struggling to cope, Nene’s advice is expected: “My advice is come to the show and let’s laughs about this. In most cases, people only want to speak about this drama when it got ugly. But I want to make it clear that I’m not saying the baby mamas are the bad guys. We, as men, contribute to the drama, too. So if you want to know how to deal with that baby mama drama, come to the show!”
