On Friday a series of activations will happen for the Durban Keep Jozi Warm parties.

The event, which is sponsored by KZN Tourism, aims to highlight Durban events taking place next month such as the Vodacom July, the Mr Price Pro and The Durban International Film Festival. Aside from these events, it is also well documented that Durban is the warmest place to be in July, and outside of the festive season, the month attracts the most local tourists.

To this end, KZN Tourism has invited Durban ambassadors such as Afro-tainment’s DJ Tira, Big Nuz and C’ndo as well as Zakes Bantwini, Zakwe, Naima Kay and DJ Sox to visit malls by day for activations.

At night these acts will take to the stage in clubs. They will be joined by up-and-coming acts like Bhar, Stibobo and Amenisto. Metro FM DJ Ishmael Abrahams and 5FM’s new DJ Warras, who is also SABC1’s Live Amp presenter, will be on the decks, among others.

At 11am on Friday a branded KZN Tourism bus filled with top Durban artists will arrive at Atteridgeville Mall to perform, and fans will be able to meet their favourite stars. Gift bags will be handed out.

The action then moves to Hatfield Centre from 3pm for the next activation. That night there will be a pre-party at the upmarket Moloko Lounge in Hatfield. Doors will open at 8pm.

This is all in preparation for the main Durban Keep Jozi Warm party, which will take place on Saturday night at Renegade Junxion in Randburg, just off Malibongwe Road. In the true spirit of kwaito and house parties, the first artist will perform at midnight with the last performance at 4am.

If you are unable to attend the event, look out for the bus earlier on Saturday as it trundles off to Clear-water Mall and Northgate Mall during the day for similar events.

The Vodacom Durban July will take place on July 5 at Greyville Racecourse. The international surfing event, the Mr Price Pro, takes place from Monday to July 6, while the Durban International Film Festival, which is considered South Africa’s premier film festival, will take place from July 17 to 27.
