Call for independent productions: The State Theatre is offering South African theatre practitioners the opportunity to stage their work shown at two of its theatre spaces, the Momentum theatre and the Intimate theatre, for the period July 2014 to March 2015, under the banner of its independent theatre programme STIPP (The State Theatre Independent Productions Programme). STIPP offers a platform to independent theatre practitioners where they can stage their productions at the State Theatre with no venue charges and receive technical support including the use of State Theatre resources like décor, costume, marketing and a fee of R25 000 for each production. Auditions:
The State Theatre is looking to train up-and-coming performers through its musical theatre programme, The Studio. Part of The Studio is a dynamic musical theatre performance training programme, TTT (Towards the Triple Threat), which gives budding performers who seek a professional career in musical theatre a dense training experience. This involves a strong skill-set of acting, singing and dancing. The TTT is an intensive 10-month programme with compulsory daily attendance (weekdays from 9am to 5pm) which, upon completion, will enable the budding performers with the required skill-set to competently perform in a professional theatre environment or to graduate to the main programme of The Studio, the Professional Performers Programme (PPP). TTT training will at at times involve extended training workshops and strategic interactions with the professional performers from the PPP. The Joburg City Theatres’ Youth Development in partnership with Drama for Life is launching an intervention programme called Introduction to Performing Arts and Arts Management. It is an outcome-based programme that encompasses business and artistic practical projects where the participants will have to produce a production, market it and their entire organisation, build an audience/market, maintain proper business records and administration. The programme has three levels over three years. All community-based groups in Gauteng can collect application forms from Joburg Theatre at the box office. Forms must be returned by tomorrow, accompanied with the group’s profile. Each group must prepare a five- to 15-minute presentation.
