Night of 1 000 Drawings

Johannesburg has shown its generous side in the build up to the Night of 1000 Drawings event, to be held on Thursday, 19 November. TheSQUAD, along with a legion of other charitable helpers, has pulled together the biggest crowd-sourced and funded art exhibition that Johannesburg has seen to date. All proceeds, from the entrance fee and the R100 doodles on sale, go to Streetlight Schools.

For the people involved, it has been amazing to be part of this process, seeing how many people, from all walks of life, are keen to do good and assist in making Night Of A 1000 Drawings an unforgettable event. From the myriads of talented and generous people who've created A5 doodles to sell at the exhibition, to the venue, technical, live music / DJs and refreshments.

They have been really touched by the show of force that’s all prepped to make this an unforgettable evening and help us achieve our aim of funding for Streetlight Schools, specifically to give them a boost for the opening of their Grade R and Grade 1 in 2016.

So far, they’ve received technical support to the value of R68 000 from TechRig, T-shirts sponsored by Sharpie. Décor and bunting have been sponsored by Charmaine Elliott, CME Decor Specialists. They’ve received incredible backing for their Public Service Announcement to radio stations (including HOT 91.9 and 702), and extend many thanks go to Nick Boraine for his consummate voice-over skills, Howard Audio came to the PSA recording party, assisting with their studio space and time, as well as Wayne Bishop from PHD Media Network who is helping them get the message out.

The live music bands (The Runaway Train Cult and Georgetown) as well as the DJ’s (Dj Lebza from YFM, Ed Surreal and Kid Fonque) are donating their time and talent for free. There'll be food trucks on site, including The Bedford, StreEAT Cuisine and Vuyo’s. Coffee lovers being kept alert by Coffee by Cupped, while there'll be a full bar service by Molecular Bars and for the hipsters, craft beer by Leaky Tap.

The Night of a 1000 Drawing exhibition will be held in the old Transvaal Post Office, a landmark that's fittingly in the heart of Johannesburg. Filled with depth and history, the setting aims to be the perfect setting for all the pieces of art on offer. In addition, guests can buy original South African art for only R100.
