The Sanlam Handmade Fair is sure to draw a well-heeled crowd to Hyde Park Corner this weekend.

An array of tastefully appointed stands showcasing the best of food, wine, spirits, design, and artisanal work will be available. Each stand is individual and creates an holistic impression of what is on offer.

The Highland Park stand is particularly intriguing. Representing the northernmost distillery in Scotland, they have a 12 and 18 year single malt whisky available. The 12 year old offers delicate peat and caramel notes, while the 18 year old is darker and smokier, reminiscent of molasses. Smokier is sometimes better, but the 12 year old wins - especially after being smoked with some peat on site. See the video here.

Willoughby's has oysters and sushi available, as well as classic prawns or fish and chips. The hot weather means that oysters are the inevitable choice, but it is a pity that they were sitting, shucked, in the heat prior to serving, albeit on ice. Still a delectable treat for a summer evening.

Breva is a non-alcoholic malt beverage in a choice of four fruity flavours; peach, passion fruit, apple, and pineapple. The peach was particularly delicious. They are being promoted by the Department of Trade and Industry, and have partnered with Woolworths to offer their product under Woolworths' white label. Their drink are like soda for adults - with no dancing on tables.

Caroline McCann of Braeside Butchery was smart enough to partner with the Prue Leith Academy and Slow Meat. Offering gourmet pastrami sandwiches and steak and kidney pies, it is clear that the butcher and the chefs are equally enthusiastic about ethical produce and its implications in the South African market.

These are people who love what they do, so be sure to ask questions and engage - you'll not only get a great experience, but an education too.
