The Finery Fair is the perfect day out for family, friends and fine people. In celebration of Heritage Day the music of Georgetown Band and Gerald Clark will electrify the air, while a variety of 60 exhibitors, wine tastings, craft beer, fine food, live theatre, art exhibition by heART in the garden and more, are enjoyed under the skies of Rosemary Hill.

The Bigger Picture

The Finery Fair was born out of The Finery Makers initiative, which wanted to create an affair that would showcase the talented artists and artisans that South Africa has to offer. Many artists have passion but do not know how to be self-sustainable, or find it too hard to make ends meet. Abandoning their craft, South Africa loses out on talent, passion and creativity that could be channeled into problem solving and job creation. In order to enable promising Finery Makers with skills and knowledge to take their creativity to the next level, the Fair aims to generate within them an entrepreneurial spirit.

The focus is specifically on Gauteng as there is a wealth of unidentified and untapped creativity. The Finery Makers initiative believes that design or creative thinking is more than just pretty pictures, catchy melodies, or nice art, but that it should be channeled into accountable, originally creative ventures, competing not only locally but also on an international level.

The butcher, the baker, the candlestick maker… In a society where most things are mass produced and imported, South Africans should focus on the quality and value of something handmade and crafted. The Finery Fair is a place where new talent is born and bred and engaging the audience as they become part of the journey, discovering the hottest, trendiest, fine things. The collection of handpicked Finery Makers promises to transport fair goers to a world where quality is still king and something made-with-love actually means more than a tagline.

This year the event will take place on one day, but in 2016 will be extended to two days and 2017 to three days.

What the Finery Fair entails:

Fine Things

The collection of Finery Makers 2015 promises to delight all the senses. Exhibitors are put through a strict selection process so that only the best quality crafts will be on display

Fine Eatery

Food trucks from the best restaurants in Gauteng will find a parking spot @ Rosemary Hill. Walking around with a glass of champagne in your hand will be the norm and if that doesn’t tickle your fancy there will also be wine, craft gin and beer.

Fine Music

Throughout the day there will be a lineup of amazing up and coming artists being the perfect prologue to main acts Georgetown Band and Gerald Clark. The dream for Fine Music is to eventually become a platform to launch new artists.

Fine Theatre

The Finery Fringe will become the breeding ground for new productions to premiere on their way to the festivals and theatres around the country. This year ‘Vergeet’ will make its debut at The Finery Fair. Watch this space for more amazing theatre productions to come.

Fine heART

heART in the garden has been running since 2006 and is a collaboration of artists (called heARTists) that exhibit in the home and garden of fellow heARTist, Johan Alberts. The exhibition, featuring art works and other hand-made crafts have grown from strength the strength, attracting many 'die heart fans and is the perfect addition to The Finery Fair.
