SOWETANS had a jol this weekend with the Funmasters' PicNic and Soweto Beer Festival taking place in the township.

The Soweto Beer Festival - which has been held since 1999 - is one of Soweto's biggest social events, attracting not only locals but also national and international tourists. This year's event held at Shap Stadium, in Mofolo Park, from Friday to Monday featured craft beers for the first time. It was a huge success with festival goers branding it bigger and better.

"Woow!!! big up guys u did very well this year ya it was big n better nice 1 (sic)," Nkululeko Mbatha wrote on the event's Facebook page.

Meanwhile, the 14th FunMasters PicNic took place at Nike Stadium in Pimville was also a crush, with thousands jostling to get in, leading to some chaos at the gate. But attendees still had fun with Dineo Dee Masinga saying: "Had a blast indeed despite the chaos at the gate. Big up guys cant wait for the next one."

The first PicNic was held in Pimville four years ago as a way for township youth to get together and have fun.
