THERE has always been a huge following for Bollywood content in South Africa with numerous stars from this fast-growing industry visiting the country over the years. The relationship between both parties lies in the exchange of diverse cultures. So for Bolly fans, you will be glad to know that Sibaya’s isiZulu Theatre is hosting a vibrant production, Dostana, which encompasses the glitz and glamour of Bollywood. The acclaimed Indian music spectacular runs from Thursday to Sunday and features a cast of well known Bollywood performers, including Indian Idols 4 finalist and heart-throb, Rajdeep Chatterjee; actress Srishty Rode from the series PunarVivah; and singer/dancer, Goldiee (pictured).

Dostana is about two young men who, unbeknown to each other, fall in love with the same woman, a Bollywood star. The plot of the heart-wrenching story thickens as it takes a twist in a dramatic finale. The show, which is choreographed by Nirav Goradia, includes popular Bollywood hits, professional dancers from India and a touch of comedy.

In an interview with Tonight, event manager Veesham Maharaj shared his reasoning behind this show: “The need to bring new forms of musical shows for our local patrons is much needed and Sun International was looking for a new product for Bollywood fans, so this was an ideal concept.”

Actress Rode plays the lead role in the production. Fans of Indian TV will know her from her role in the show Yeh Ishq Haaye which was aired on India’s Star One. She has also acted in daily soaps on Zee TV, Chotti Bahu and Punar Vivah. The series is currently being aired on DStv as Married Again on Zee World.

“There are lots of current Bollywood hits with dance drama and music, which is a family entertainer. The cast of stars is sure to have the audience wanting more. And fans will be pleased to know that this is a concert created for SA fans with English dialogue, making it appealing as it will have inter-national dancers and artists in brilliant costumes,” Maharaj adds.

Steering the conversation towards the relationship between SA and Bollywood, Maharaj says: “We have a great relationship with both the countries as both have a rich diversity of culture. We are confident of patrons supporting Dostana as it is also affordable.”

l Dostana runs at iZulu Theatre at Sibaya from Thurs to Sun. Tickets available at Computicket and the Sibaya Box Office, ranging from R120 per person.
