The Rhumbelow Theatre and Steyn Alive Productions pay tribute to some of music’s biggest divas this week with the show Diva Feva.

This production showcases the music of some of the worlds most popular female solo artists as well as those who were part of hit bands. The show will run from May 22 to 31 at The Rhumbelow Theatre at Cunningham Ave, off Bartle Road, in Umbilo.

Featuring Claire Jan Rowlett, Kerry-lee McKibbin, Danielle Fisher and Joanne Fisher Steyn, the show promises to be a hit with the audience.

Fisher Steyn, who is also producer/ director of the show, said she’s produced many tribute shows but always longed to pay back to all the female vocalists that have inspired her as a performer and vocalist over the years.

“I have grown up listening to and admiring the voices of many Diva’s from the past to the present day, it seemed only natural to pay tribute to these amazing women and showcase what ‘Girl Power’ is all about.

“I am fortunate enough to work alongside some amazing talent in this production and together we bring to life the music, persona’s and performance of some of the most powerful female voices that have graced the music industry over the years.

“The added bonus, of course, is that when we perform the show we get to feel like each Diva we are portraying as our characters are adorned with glitz, glam, costumes, wigs and of course loads of bling!”

Putting together the play list was a challenge: “I wanted to make sure we covered all genres of ‘Diva-ness’. From the early days of sexy sirens like Marilyn Monroe, The Supremes and Nina Simone, to performers like Tina Turner, Celine Dion, Cher and the voices of today’s chart toppers like Katy Perry, Adele and Lady GaGa and so many more.

“Each of my cast members also had some creative input with song selections and characters.

“When an audience member comes to watch our show they better be prepared for a marathon of feisty female performances, as we pay tribute to the music of over 30 different Divas.”

Having performed Diva Feva for two sell-out seasons at the Pumpkin Theatre in Ballito, she said she’s certain Durban will love the show as much. “We always have a fantastic reaction from audiences as we cater for each and every person in the audience, no matter age or background.

“Whether it be grandparents, parents or children, there is something for everyone in this production and everyone always ends up on their feet! Our shows are family orientated, making for a fabulous family outing.

“We often get asked, ‘How do you change so fast?’ and ‘Is it madness backstage with all your costume changes?’, well, it truly is! We have so many full costume changes, we often wonder how we pull it off ourselves!

“We also like to encourage our audience members to dress the part and let their inner Diva out. So don that feather boa, lashes and heels and come catch a little bit of Diva Feva... its highly contagious!”
