RHUMBELOW THEATRE, UMBILO: The AUC present their third Rhumbelow Theatre family show, The Pied Piper of Hamelin. Adapted for the stage from the Robert Browning version of the classic tale by Marc Kay, and directed by Clinton Small. Performers will race about the stage enacting one of their favourite stories, filled with magic, comedy, shadow puppets, audience interaction… and rats. Make sure to bring your little ones for a fun-filled adventure. After the show, a short workshop will be held as an introduction to shadow puppet theatre (run by the performers, and at no extra cost). R60 at Computicket. SIBAYA, IZULU THEATRE: Ten years ago, a group of Durban comedians took KZN audiences by storm with a show that was soon to become synonymous with Dingalings’ outrageously funny comedy. Now the guys are back with Chops Choons 2 and return to the old favorite haunt, Park Renie . Featuring Koobeshen Naidoo, Henry Ramkisoon, Ravi Soobramoney, Melvyn David and newcomer Adhir Singh. OLIVE CONVENTION CENTRE: The 99% Zulu Comedy Fest returns for its fourth annual Vodacom Durban July’s comedy special. The show, which runs on Thursday, is also part two of the Durban leg of its 10th anniversary celebration. The producers are assembling a different line-up that will not only do justice to the cause, but the fans will not want to miss either. One of the producers of this show, Celeste Ntuli, will host a line-up of seven professional comics from across the country. 8pm. Book at Computicket.

PLAYHOUSE THEATRE: Dim-Dep is a new South African musical with a strong environmental and heritage theme, by Atlas Philani Duma, which runs from Thursday to Sunday. The title, Dim-Dep, is inspired by the sound that is produced by beating an African drum, especially by the hands. Features a great musical score denoting the changing historical landscape: from Afro-blues to mainstream jazz, to bebop, to cool jazz, modern jazz, pop, hip pop, Maskandi, Afro-jazz and house. 7pm with the Sunday show at 3pm. NEW COVENANT FELLOWSHIP, REDHILL: In honour of Youth Month and Crystal Tryon-Singh being in town, The NCF trailblazers bring a dynamic afternoon programme to empower young people entitled, I Make a Difference. The event forms part of the CAI (Christian Arts Initiative) Outreach. Will be performed on Sunday at 6pm. The programme falls under the artistic direction of Yeshica Elisha Naidoo. Audiences might recognise her as the host of two TV magazine shows Saffron Nights and Dance With Saffron. Free (seating is on a first come basis). Call 031 564 1844.

THE BARNYARD THEATRE: Brace yourself for 50 of the greatest songs of all time in 50 Carat Gold which runs until July 19. The hits featured are some of the most defining moments in music history over the past 60 years. The cast is made up of Andrew Webster, Lee Paver, Gift Gwe, Jae Green and Caelee Vercuiel on vocals; Ralph Martin on guitar and vocals, Calli Thomson on keyboards, Kelly Joubert on bass guitar, Ruan Oosthuyzen on drums and dancer Ola Aina. PLAYHOUSE COMPANY: Northciff High presents the musical, Legally Blonde, from tomorrow to Sunday. Legally Blonde features a cast of 28, a crew of 14, 12 musicians and the various members of staff who make up this touring group. The show is based on the novel by Amanda Brown and the movie, starring Reese Witherspoon, and involves a young blonde lady who is jilted by her boyfriend as she is too much of a Marilyn (Monroe) and not enough of a Jackie (Kennedy) and he has high aspirations of studying law and going into politics. ELIZABETH SNEDDON THEATRE: The annual Pansa Young Performers project runs from Friday to July 12. Soldiers in the City, which is funded by the KZN Dept of Arts and Culture and Rainbow, is an innovative new home-grown work created by Themi Venturas, Iain “Ewok” Robinson and Lucky Cele which engages with the emerging urban youth culture. The production examines the overt culture of the new generation which includes rhyming, beat-box, urban dance, music and public artwork like graffiti. The production team includes: Venturas (writer, director); Robinson (creative consultant); Cele (co-writer); Daisy Spencer (choreographer); Des Govender (vocal coach); and Dawn Selby (musical director).
