SUNCOAST, Cinecentre: The Dingalings are back with their hit adult comedy, What Women Want. Directed by Kumseela Naidoo, the play features Henry Ramkissoon, Koobeshen Naidoo and Senzo Mthethwa. THE BARNYARD THEATRE, Gateway: 99 Hits runs from today to October 12 and presents 99 hit songs in a two-hour show. Get ready to be taken on a roller-coaster ride through more than 60 years of hits. Watch how Elvis takes on Cliff Richard, Cher takes on Mick Jagger and how Katy Perry takes on Miley Cyrus. The cast consists of five vocalists – Andrew Webster, Marvin Nethononda, Lee Paver, Caelee Vercuiel and Jean Juliet – while the band comprises Joe du Toit (guitar), Calli Thomson (keyboard), Kelly Joubert (bass guitar) and Nelis Du Plessis (drums). ELIZABETH SNEDDON THEATRE: The 16th annual Jomba! Contemporary Dance Experience runs until September 7. This year’s programme is an especially focused Mzansi edition with attention being given to supporting some of South Africa’s top dance companies and dance makers. Jomba! has decided to give support and offer recognition to five of South Africa’s most awarded and cutting- edge dance companies with invitations to Vuyani Dance Theatre (Jhb), Moving Into Dance Mophatong (Jhb), Flatfoot Dance Company (Ddb), First Physical Theatre Company (Grahamstown) and the Floating Outfit Project (Dbn). CATALINA THEATRE: Air Guitar, the celebrated mini-musical, is back with a new-look super-charged cast. Written and directed by Themi Venturas, this popular show was last seen in Durban 10 years ago. Running until September 12, the show features Clinton Philander. This version of Air Guitar brings the team together with ace-guitarist Barry Thompson and introduces Cuan Austin who replaces Rowan Stuart in the role of the Young Guitarist. Backing the three frontmen is the show band led by Dawn Selby, with Mali Sewell on drums and Jason Andrew on bass. Air Guitar tells the tale of a South African who, upon realising that he has not done much with his life, and quickly approaching his 50s, decides to enter the Air Guitar World Championships in Finland. THE PLAYHOUSE: Amambazo the Musical returns from Thursday to September 14 . In October 2013 Ladysmith Black Mambazo made history by launching the musical, a theatrical piece that tells the musical journey of this group. Directed by Edmund Mhlongo, Amambazo the Musical boasts a cast of 25 young performers, along with a six-piece band and members of Ladysmith Black Mambazo. HILTON COLLEGE: KZN’s premier arts festival, the 22nd Witness Hilton Arts Festival, will take place at Hilton College in the Midlands from September 18 to 21. The festival hosts the best of theatre, dance, comedy, musical theatre, family theatre, classical music as well as a series of mind-scape lectures and discussions. SIBAYA CASINO: One Nite Stand, written and performed by Mervyn Pillay, is back by popular demand. The show has a bit of everything from old-school clubbing to languages, beauty pageants, how the world would be a better place if we are all comfortable in our birthday suits, to Bollywood goes porn. The show is filled with the experiences Mervyn had as a boy, son, father, son-in-law and South African Indian. Mervyn has performed his comedy routines across the country, some of his past shows include Back In Time, 150 Years of Laughing, Bollywood Comedy Night, Braz Oues In Concert, the Durban Comedy Festival and the recently staged Aunty Rumba and Friends.
