Grace Kotze Projects have embarked on another visual arts venture through the exhibition, When my eyes are open, which will run at the Breathing Space in Durban soon.

Kotze said we live in a beautiful world that presents us with the most incredible array of creatures, plants, landscapes, which are further added to by the manner in which humanity has altered our environment.

“When my eyes are open is an exhibition which explores the individual artists’ vision of the intriguing and captivating world in which we reside. Some opt for a sensual approach to embrace the juicy visual world, while others examine the world in a more analytical approach. These are only two viewpoints, but the show boasts unique and intriguing outlooks from each artist in their chosen field.”

She said she is very aware of how fortunate she is to be an artist and live in such a beautiful world, so she created an exhibition about celebrating the profession that herself and fellow artists have.

“Insights presented through others’ eyes can broaden one’s vision. They can teach, reassure, challenge and enlighten. The works in my personal art collection, which I have collected over the years, act as a means of great guidance. They act as a means of artistic instruction. Also, through each artist’s generosity of revealing personal insights I gain internal strength and growth.”

The exhibition includes bronze sculptures, ceramics, paintings, collages, prints, woodwork, stencil art, drawings, graffiti and traditional oil paintings.

When my eyes are open showcases predominantly KwaZulu-Natal artists, but also a few Cape Town artists. Among them are Jenny Parsons, Jane Oliver, Megan Bonnetard, Pamela Benporath, Vuli Nyoni, Melody French, Alex Hamilton, Sarah Richards, Dane Stops, Louise Jennings, Jeannie Kinsler, Marlene De Beer, Kotze, Karen Bradtke, Deidre Maree, Ashley Viljoen, Pascale Chandler, Kim Longhurst and Peter Rippon.
