Think you have a discerning palate? then it’’s time to put your money where your mouth is. Or better yet, your mouth where the wine is.

That’s because the South African Wine Tasting Championships for 2015 is making its presence felt at the Mercury Wine Week, which starts tomorrow.

The competition is open to everyone, and wine lovers are invited to test their ability and perhaps qualify for the national championships in September. Four winners from the national round will then get to enjoy a fantastic prize – a trip to the World Wine Tasting Championships at Chateauneuf du Pape in France for a shot at the ultimate accolade – the world’s best wine taster.

The KZN leg of this tasting tour de force will take place between 12 and 3pm on August 29 at the Mercury Wine Week. It costs just R20 to enter and the fee will be donated to the Hibberdene Childrens Home.

The Mercury Wine Week takes place from August 27 to August 29 at Suncoast. The event will bring together around 100 wine estates and each evening, the Grinrod Bank Wine Theatre will host dedicated wine tastings from various estates, free of charge. There’s plenty for the wine lover to explore, including tempting wine pairings with delectable cheeses.

Tickets cost R120 from Computicket. For more information, visit mercurywineweek.co.za.
