The Artisan Gallery’s open exhibition has just two weeks left before it closes, so best all art lovers head down there soon.

The gallery’s Ingrid Lotter Smith explained that they only have one open exhibition when they invite artists to submit work according to a theme.

“The artists bring their work for collection, display and for sale. It also gives us an opportunity to see new talent and the different approaches and interpretations of the theme.”

This year the theme is Line and it has inspired the artists to respond creatively in a variety of exciting interpretations.

Lotter Smith said their response has not only been with with drawings and graphic works, but also photography, paintings and three-dimensional pieces.

“There are also paintings where Line is incorporated in the way these are painted. So, for example, instead of using big strokes, you find it has a linear emphasis. Ceramicists have drawn into tiles, putting a linear pattern into their items. There’s some sculpture which is far more linear, including a piece by Carl Roberts.”

Some other contributing artists include Mandy Kok, Mike Loveridge and Andrew Verster .

• The exhibition wraps up at the end of the month. For more information, call the Artisan Gallery at 031 312 4364.
