Popular funnyman, Marc Lottering, will be bringing the laughs at the show My Funny Valentine in Durban this weeked. He was kind enough to put some A’s to a few Q’s that Latoya Newman passed on to him about lovers’ day and related matters…

Your ideal Valentine’s Day surprise would be…

To wake up on Valentine’s Day, with no loadshedding. That would be awesome!

Your definition on what true love really is:

True love is being able to look your partner in the eye and say: “I’m sorry, babe. You’re completely right. It’s all my fault.” This strategy saves so much time and energy, particularly when you know you’re in the right. Again.

If you had access to Cupid’s bow and arrow and could use it freely during a sitting of Parliament, who would you target and why? And what would your desired outcome be?

I would not shoot at anybody as such as I’m anti-violence. I would, however, gently hand the bow and arrow to Mr Malema, particularly if he makes that promised “no clothing” appearance. He would make an amazing Cupid!

My Funny Valentine is punted as a music and comedy show. In addition to performing some comedy, will you be singing, too?

If not, can we dare you to serenade one audience member of your choice with a love song of your choice at the Valentine’s Day show? (If you choose to take up the dare, please tell us what song you’ll be singing).

I won’t really be singing a song in the show as I want to leave the stage with my dignity intact. But since you asked so nicely, if the mood takes me, I may serenade the entire audience with a few lines of my favourite ditty: Smile.

Where can we see you perform after this show?

I just came off a year-long tour of my show This is Captain Lottering Speaking. So I’m on a bit of a break. I’ll keep fans posted on Twitter: @marclottering.

• Stand-up comedy legend Lottering is the highlight of My Funny Valentine, a tender, funny show with a musical twist. The show also features suave comedian, Masood Boomgaard, and acclaimed songstress, Natalie Rungan.

Lottering will set the mood for an unforgettable night of comedy and romance, while Boomgaard will explore the humorous side of love through his discussions on dating in the modern age compared to the old days and attempt to answer the mystical question of what women want.

Rungan, a recording artist who has performed internationally, will render some of history’s most memorable love songs by the likes of Whitney Houston, Ella Fitzgerald and Adele. The show will also feature guest artists.

The show takes place at the Sibaya iZulu Theatre on Friday and Saturday at 8pm. Tickets are R120 at Computicket.
