Waiting for good sevice...

- In the mood for a pasta dish, two of us decided to go to Mimmo's at Suncoast. After being seated and given the menu, we then had to wait for about 20 minutes before a waitron arrived to take our order. And, we might still be waiting to order now as we had to get up and flag a waiter down first!

My friend ordered the Alla Luca dish with spaghetti, while I ordered the same dish - minus the chicken as I was on a Hindu religious fast (abstinence from meat). And we waited.

After the arrival of our starter, we waited another long spell before the waitron wandered over to ask us if we were ready for our mains. We then waited 10 minutes before the meals arrived. I took one bite and realised, despite my order for no meat, that my dish had chicken in it. Okay, it was delicious, but the wrong dish.

The restaurant was not busy so there was no excuse for the bad service. We gave the undeserving waitron a tip. But, the service at Mimmo's needs to be seriously jacked up. - Debashine Thangevelo

- We have been running an e-mail debate on tipping and the fact that most restaurants do not pay their waitrons or, if they do, it's a tiny shift allowance which wouldn't even pay for a taxi home.

The consensus of opinion (pretty obvious) is that it's time for a change. Basically, waitrons (unless they get good tips, and how much do you tip?) end up being paid by us diners.

"It's unskilled work," said one restaurant owner. I beg to differ - a good waitron has skill. House cleaning is "unskilled" too and we all pay our cleaners.

Waitrons are being taken for a ride - it happens worldwide. But, as one restaurateur told me, if they don't like it there's plenty more out there ...

Not the right answer. I won't be going back to his restaurant again.
