THE SOUTH African National Park (SANParks) has confirmed that a pornographic video – which gained traction on social media this week – was filmed on Lion’s Head.

SANParks spokeswoman Merle Collins said they had initially released a statement saying the video was fake as they believed Photoshop was used.

“Before we didn’t have the video, we just have a picture from the video and we thought that was Photoshopped. But yesterday we found that the video was real.”

Collins said they had one of their staff members watch the video to verify where it had been made and said they are now trying to trace the company that produced it.

“We would never allow anyone permission to do something like that. We are trying to find the film company that made it. It seems they made it on the edge of the mountain; you can see a view of the city in the background, and we speculate that they had a bouncer in the area to keep the public away, because Lion’s Head is very busy.”

Social media erupted with comments about the video’s emergence. Many were surprised by the location, while others believed the clip to have been filmed a long time ago as Cape Town Stadium does not appear in the background.

Mayuri Pillay (@MissMay_CT) tweeted: “I’m not even sure why I hit play while at work on this one – good Lord.”

While Sello (@LoloKale) commented: “Can’t believe someone actually shot a porno on Lion’s Head, looks like an old video though.”

Michael Reddy (@Michael_Reddy) took a stab at identifying the man in the video, but this could not be confirmed.

Meanwhile, Lion’s Head was off limits for most of the day on Tuesday, as a rockfall closed off part of the path.

Table Mountain National Parks area manager Wana Bacela said they were forced to turn hikers away as a safety precaution and will assess the situation on Wednesday.

“The rockfall happened early in the morning and we found out about it by 10am. Luckily it was not very busy because of the weather conditions, but there were people we had to turn away.”

Bacela added that they had to clear Kloof Road to make way for traffic.

SANParks spokeswoman Tarcia Hendricks said they would investigate what caused the rockfall.

“In order to avoid further rockfall incidents, park rangers are actively investigating the cause behind the fall but believe at this stage that it happened naturally.”
