Shamwari Game Reserve in the Eastern Cape and Sanbona Wildlife Reserve, situated in the Klein Karoo, outside Cape Town, both part of the Shamwari Group, present a unique walking experience called the ‘Explorer Camp’, offering guests an opportunity to explore rich wilderness areas with a two day walking safari and accommodation in “mobile tents” within two unique Big 5 territories.

The Shamwari Explorer will operate throughout the year while the Sanbona Explorer will operate from October until April each year.

Explorer Camp is ideal for guests to truly get back to nature from an “on the ground” perspective, accompanied by a qualified guide, spending two nights immersed in nature amongst the Big 5 while camping in the bush.

The mobile canvas tents sleep a maximum of two people each and are spaced out in order to create privacy whilst learning about the flora, fauna, and exceptional rock art sites at Sanbona, stargazing and fascinating history of the area.

All meals are included and present a delicious outdoor bush menu served for breakfast, lunch and dinner and are enjoyed around the camp fire. Special meals are catered for when required.

Guests are required to be fit enough to walk at least four hours a day for the utmost safari camping experience. Age restrictions do apply and any medical and dietary requirements are to be communicated upon booking.
