Durban - Antbear Lodge is an owner-run venue in the Drakensberg Mountains that just oozes hospitality.

This is a sustainable eco lodge with buildings that have used materials such as straw bales, cob, rammed earth and sun-dried bricks.

You can talk to Andrew about his plans for getting off the grid and be amazed by the possibilities. The wood- work is quirky and inspiring, all hand-made on the property.

The en-suite rooms are smartly appointed with fireplaces and Jacuzzi spa baths.

There is a luxury cave with glass doors opening on to a wooden deck with hammock chairs and a panoramic view of the mountains.

Antbear Lodge also offers a private dining experience where a table is set up on the deck of your cave and you dine by candlelight under the stars. And if he doesn’t propose in this romantic environment – he’s just not overboard about you.

Meals are prepared with a real South African flair and the organic vegetable garden contributes a lot to the ingredients used.

There are free roaming chickens for eggs, cows for milk, home-baked bread and even cheese that’s made on the farm. There is lots to do in the area which includes Bushman rock art, hiking trails and the Midlands Meander.

Don’t forget the horse trails ideally suited for beginners. Ask Andrew to take you for a flight in his microlight. Gliding with vultures or flying along the Drakensberg escarpment is never to be forgotten.

So if you’re dreaming of a romantic getaway, a place to unwind and relax, then Antbear Lodge is the place to be. Members get a 20 percent discount excluding peak seasons until the end of October 2016. Call 076 441 2362 or e-mail [email protected], www.antbear.co.za
