Durban - Think old-world, colonial opulence – this is what Lambert House, a new boutique guest house in Lambert Road, Morningside, exudes.

As you walk up the stairs from the car park, a palm tree-lined walkway leads you up to the grand house that has been redecorated and fitted out to offer guests comfort and serenity.

Owners, Willard Maseko and Lisa Woodhouse, had this in mind when they embarked on their revamp of Lambert House.

On the ground floor there’s a formal lounge set for high tea, a bar area to enjoy an evening cocktail and an open-plan kitchen for guests to chat with Maseko, as he whips up a culinary delight.

With four beautifully decorated and individually styled en suite bedrooms on the upper level of the main house, as well as a larger “family” room over the garage, guests are spoilt for choice in terms of what they are looking for. Each room has its own charm and allure.

Attention to detail and luxury is evident – from Charlotte Rhys toiletries, magnificent water bottles and glasses and porcelain tea cups, as well as flat screen TVs.

For outdoor entertainment there is a choice of two heated pools with comfortable deck chairs to enjoy the view of the city or take in some sun as well as a vast veranda to enjoy a chat by the fire or breakfast outdoors.

Lambert House opened its doors yesterday, but is already booked halfway into August. Whether it’s a business stopover or a base from which to explore Durban you’re looking for, this charming guest house will offer you opulence and comfort – a home away from home.
