When the cold weather comes to Gauteng, local folks think longingly of their favourite playground - the KwaZulu Natal South Coast where, during the winter months, the days remain warm enough to sunbathe and the nights pleasant enough to party.

There is a great deal to do there, as the loyal supporters of KwaZulu Natal well know.

The South Coast itself has its share of tourist attractions where visitors can buy superb local crafts, visit crocodile farms (CrocWorld at Scottburgh is internationally famous) or go cruising down one of the rivers.

Sandie Quinn, managing director of one of the best-known hotels on the South Coast, the Blue Marlin, has prepared some superb winter "specials" to celebrate the hotel's 50th birthday.

Anyone celebrating their golden wedding anniversary (or 50th birthday) this year is being offered a 50 percent discount off the normal tariff. Readers who want to take up this offer need proof of their birthday - or 50th wedding anniversary.

The Blue Marlin is also offering children under 13 who share a room with their parents free accommodation from June 23 to 30 and again from August 19 to 26. Parents will be asked to pay for food only (R54 per child).

During the December holidays, guests will received a 10 percent discount off the in-season tariff - provided the deposit is paid by June 30.

Finally, visitors can stay free at the Blue Marlin for three days - between July 21 and 28 this year - and just pay for their three meals. The cost is R108 a day per person sharing.

These offers are subject to availability and cannot be used in conjunction with other promotions. Accommodation will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
