Dine in style with a singing chef

Cape Town. 260214. Head Sommelier at the One & Only Luvo Ntezo or wine steward, is a trained and knowledgeable wine professional, normally working in fine restaurants, who specializes in all aspects of wine service as well as wine and food pairing. The role is much more specialized and informed than that of a wine waiter: In fine dining today the role is strategically on a par with that of the executive chef or chef de cuisine. Cape Town - The newly launched food and wine evenings at Cape Royale Luxury Hotel and Spa’s Bistro 1800 restaurant are R320 for five courses, with wine.

We went to the first one with Nitida and spent a lot of lovely time chatting to wine maker Brendan Butler. The meal was delicious, the evening relaxed and informal, and not only did chef Bevan Webb come out to talk to the guests as well, he was also the musical entertainment.

Yes indeed, a singing chef who wears his whites and performs a few ditties for you while you dine.

It was very sweet that that night his proud parents were there too.

Bistro 1800’s pairing evenings are on the last Friday of every month until September. Next week is the turn of Constantia Glen. Like Brendan, Justin van Wyk is one of the new youthful generation of winemakers. Maybe you’ll remember him from the TV series Exploring The Vine a few years ago.

There’s something so very attractive about a good-looking young man who knows and loves his wine.
