Cape Town - The seaside is always a perfect getaway, whatever the weather, and this winter sees Abalone House and Spa in the charming coastal village of Paternoster on the Cape West Coast, providing the most indulgent winter comforts for its guests.

There are few things more invigorating than a brisk walk on the beach on a cold winter’s day. And even better is returning to the cosiest of spaces. And that is what makes Abalone House and Spa’s winter indulgent package a must.

The intimate space of the 10-suite guesthouse is all about cosy comfort. Rooms are decorated in earthy tones with ethnic elements and splashes of bright colour with the signature Tretchikoff prints dotted about.

With vast king-sized beds, under-floor heating and luxurious mohair blankets, it’ll be difficult to tear yourself away from your room, especially with its iPod docking station, flat-screen TV, CD and DVD player and cappuccino machine.

The library is well stocked with books and DVDs so there are plenty of excuses to enjoy cocooning in your room.

Once you do tear yourself away from the creature comforts of your room, head to the spa for some much-needed relaxation therapy.

The locally produced Healing Earth products’ Earth Soul range uses quality indigenous ingredients. Think marula, Kalahari melon and mongongo nut used in oils, balms and scrubs.

Spa experiences are tailor-made to invigorate, relax or de-stress. The spa space has a whitewashed beach house feel with fresh flowers and candles adding a luxurious touch.

On to the evening and Abalone House and Spa’s African Lounge is the best spot to enjoy a pre-dinner drink next to the roaring oversized fireplace.

The in-house Reuben’s restaurant is perfect for delicious meals, from breakfast to lunches and dinners. High-back armchairs in deep reds, wooden ceiling beams, chandeliers and Persian carpets set the scene for an intimate and delicious dinner. If it’s a sunny afternoon, the place to be is on the brand new deck: bask in the winter sun while drinking in the fresh sea air and glorious sea views.

Making the most of the West Coast setting as well as Reuben Riffel’s love of aromatic spicing, starters are a choice of hearty bouillabaisse or Malay fish cakes.

Signature pork belly with pomme purée or tandoori baked linefish with coconut rice will have diners torn for choice while sublime desserts of traditional malva pudding or cinnamon ice cream with Amarula anglaise and apricots are a perfect sweet ending.

But the pampering doesn’t end here, as the Bath Butler Service will finish off a perfect day. Head back to your suite for a heavenly Healing Earth bath ritual prepared for you with salts, bath milk or oils with heavenly aromatherapy properties.

Snuggle up in a cosy bath robe, grab a fluffy towel from the heated towel rail and sink back into blissful relaxation before a good night’s rest.

Indeed, there are few places that will be as special this winter as Abalone House and Spa.

The winter indulgence package costs R1395 per person sharing per night (minimum of a 2 night stay) and includes the following: accommodation, breakfast, a two-course dinner at Reuben’s, a one-hour spa treatment as well as a bath butler service each day. Valid from 1 May to 31 August 2014.
