Cape Town - Mr Monopoly visited the Mother City’s “big 7” attractions as part of a global launch of a new Cape Town version of the board game that will be launched at the V&A Waterfront on Friday.

The Monopoly board game mascot, known as “Rich Uncle Pennybags”, was spotted strolling along the City Walk, which starts at the Company’s Garden, continues down St George’s Mall to Waterkant Street, and progresses up the Fan Walk to St Andrew’s Square.

He was also seen taking a boat to Robben Island.

In addition, the top-hatted figure made an appearance at the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens smelling the wild flowers.

This year the board game celebrates its 80th anniversary.

Mr Monopoly also caught the Flying Dutchman funicular at Cape Point.

He later savoured views from the revolving cabin of the Table Mountain Cableway.

Pennybags further explored the history at Groot Constantia.

Bulelwa Makalima-Ngewana, chief executive of the Cape Town Partnership which facilitates the City Walk, expressed her delight and excitement at hosting the capitalist visitor.
