It’s going to be a dry flight to Ibiza

London - Ryanair has banned duty-free alcohol on flights from the UK to Ibiza.

The budget airline said any alcohol purchased after security checks would now have to be placed in hold luggage.

The ban follows incidents involving drunken behaviour by travellers heading to the party island.

In September a flight was diverted after drunken passengers apparently caused trouble. The airline – which banned alcohol on flights to Ibiza from Scotland in April – said customers behaving anti-socially or hiding alcohol would be denied travel.

An email sent to Ibiza-bound passengers and obtained by the BBC said bags would now be searched at departure gates.

Ryanair flys to Ibiza from Bristol, East Midlands, Stansted, Birmingham, Liverpool, Glasgow Prestwick, Manchester and Leeds Bradford airports.

A Ryanair spokesperson said: “Having consulted with our customers and the airports, customers flying from the UK to Ibiza will no longer be permitted to bring duty free alcohol on board the aircraft. The comfort and safety of our customers and crew is our number one priority.”
