Johannesburg - The total number of foreign travellers who visited South Africa increased from 13.7 million in 2012 to 15.1m in 2013, Statistics SA said.

They came from Africa and overseas through all ports of entry, according to Stats SA's Tourism report released on Monday.

It covers the period from January 1, 2013 to December 31, 2013.

A total of 9.5m tourists came to South Africa in 2013, an increase of 3.8 percent from the 9.1m tourists in 2012.

The least tourist arrivals were recorded in June and the highest number in December.

Tourists from Africa made up 71.9 percent of the total number of tourists, while 27.9 percent of tourists were from overseas countries. - Sapa
