London - After years of being left in the shade, it seems Brits abroad are beating Germans to the sunbeds for the first time.

Research shows Britain is the most likely nation to hog pool and beachside sun loungers. Many are so dedicated to getting their towels there first that they’ve been warned about their behaviour by staff.

Online travel agents sunshine.co.uk questioned 2 150 UK adults for the survey on age-old rivalries over poolside seating.

It revealed 71 percent were guilty of unfairly reserving sunbeds on our last holiday abroad – and 52 percent had actually been in trouble for it.

After the British, the Germans were the next to bag an early morning lounger, followed by the Dutch, French and Russians.

When the same research was carried out in 2012, Germans were revealed as the most likely to reserve a spot, followed by those from Holland and Russia.

Chris Clarkson, of sunshine.co.uk, said: “Reserving sunbeds is one of the biggest holiday taboo. People should remember that if the habit irritates them, they shouldn’t do it themselves!”
