Helping to fuel the travel fund

There's finally an online tool that can tell you precisely how much guilt-free cash you can tuck away every month in your travel fund, and it's linked to harnessing the ebb and flow of the South African fuel price.

Helping you budget better

Drive South Africa recently launched a monthly fuel cost calculator that helps motorists stay on top of fuel expenses - helping them budget better. The fully responsive, web-based app works out exactly how much you are going to spend on fuel during the month, and how much more (or less) money you will spend (or save) compared to the previous month. Travellers can now utilise the tool to figure out how much money they can stash for travel savings in months the fuel price drops. When the fuel price increases the tool will tell users how much they will need to reallocate from other expense accounts* to spend on fuel.

The tool calculates monthly fuel spend based on the current fuel price as updated by South Africa's Department of Energy on the first Wednesday of every month.

What goes up, must come down

South African road users have enjoyed fuel price drops consecutively over the past five months - five months' worth of great opportunities to save for a getaway. However, with the fuel price set to hike over the next two months, there is bound to be a price drop once again which is when monthly fuel cost calculator users will be adequately prepared for how much they will be able to feed into their adventure fund.

Designed for the way people think about fuel

The tool is designed to give all motorists an accurate monthly fuel cost calculation, by offering four ways to calculate monthly fuel spend. "People think differently about the way they use fuel. Some people think about how many kilometres they've driven, how much money they've spent, how many times they've filled up their tank this month, or how many litres they've used. So we decided to build the tool so that everyone could use it", says Drive South Africa's Head of Digital, Renier van Schalkwyk.

Helping every motorist

Drive South Africa is a vehicle rental company that aims to enrich Southern Africa road travel experiences through the availability of helpful road travel planning tools. Drive South Africa's Head of Digital, Renier van Schalkwyk says, "The idea of the calculator came about when we wanted to find a way to help our long-term car rental clients calculate their monthly fuel cost. It was only when a few of our internal team members started using the calculator for their personal month to month budgeting that we realised that every motorist could benefit from the fuel cost calculator. That's when we decided to create a microsite for the calculator and turn it into a web-based, responsive app which launched this week."
