London - It ranks among Britain’s smallest cities but Salisbury in Wiltshire is tipped as one of world’s best places to visit next year.

It has made a top 10 cities list chosen by travel guide Lonely Planet among the likes of Washington, Milan and Vienna.

According to its Best in Travel 2015 it will no longer simply be “a short stop on the way to Stonehenge”.

It says: “2015 is set to be the year visitors linger in this quintessentially English city as Salisbury uncorks the champagne for the 800th anniversary of its greatest treasure, the Magna Carta. The lightning rod for the celebrations will be Salisbury Cathedral, the medieval masterpiece whose Chapter House holds the Magna Carta.”

The guide also praises Salisbury’s restaurants and nightlife. - Daily Mail
