Beijing - Sol Kerzner is turning his magic hotel touch to China with a new luxury development at Haitang Bay in Hainan Province.

Kerzner International, in partnership with China Gezhouba Group Real Estate, says construction has begun on One&Only Sanya.

The property features 192 luxurious guest rooms, suites and villas and will command enviable views of over 380m of private coastline and more than 11ha of coconut palms set amid water gardens throughout the resort. This will be the first resort in China for the ultra-luxury One&Only brand and it is expected to establish a whole new level of luxury experience for the region.

One&Only Resorts are set in some of the most beautiful locations in the world. Each resort offers guests a distinctive style and personality borne of its local culture, genuine hospitality and a lively energy.

The seven properties include the One&Only Reethi Rah in the Maldives; One&Only Le Saint Géran in Mauritius; One&Only Royal Mirage in Dubai; One&Only Ocean Club in The Bahamas; One&Only Palmilla in Los Cabos, Mexico; One&Only Cape Town and One&Only The Palm in Dubai.

A further One&Only has been announced for Montenegro, the first resort in Europe for the collection, as well as One&Only Jeddah, the brand’s first resort in The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

In addition, the Australian Hayman Island resort is undergoing a multimillion-dollar refurbishment and will be reborn as One&Only Hayman Island on the Great Barrier Reef in July, when One&Only assumes management.

Jean-Michel Gathy, the principal designer of Denniston International Architects, has been engaged for the design of One&Only Sanya, working with a design team led by Sol Kerzner, chairman of Kerzner International, and Alan Leibman, its chief executive.

Bensley Design Studios will complement the design of the resort through landscape architecture, highlighting the local flora and fauna found in Hainan, as well as creating water features throughout.

Guest accommodation will range from two- to four-bedroom private villas and a presidential suite to executive suites and guest rooms, to be situated within either the main manor house or mansions, providing an exclusive, residential feel.

The six private villas, offering two, three or four bedrooms, will provide indoor and outdoor space, with private pools and barbeque areas.

The manor house will provide a residential feel with entry-level guest rooms of a minimum of 70m2. In addition, the manor house will feature six Executive suites that offer an impressive 141m2 of space. The presidential suite, also in the manor house, will welcome guests with a private lobby to the 350m suite, providing two bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms.

Five low-rise mansions will offer an elevated sense of privacy and space with separate courtyard entrance and a mix of guest rooms and suites – some with private pools. Accommodation may be reserved individually or entire mansions may be reserved.

One&Only Sanya will offer a variety of cuisines showcasing regional specialities in restaurants overseen by internationally-acclaimed chefs. The resort will also house a spa and fitness centre. - Saturday Star
