The city that never sleeps

Kuala Lumpur - If there’s one thing that caught my eye when visiting Kuala Lumpur last week, it had to be the city’s Petronas Twin Towers.

Driving into Malaysia’s capital city, it’s the very first thing you see. The towers look majestic by day and dazzling by night. Soaring to a height of 451.9m, the 88-storey structure is Kuala Lumpur’s crown jewel.

These towers are regarded as Kuala Lumpur’s number one tourist attraction. Though they dominate the city’s skyline, there are many other buildings including the Kuala Lumpur Tower, that are just as majestic. The Kuala Lumpur Tower has a revolving restaurant at the top and is great for giving tourists a panoramic view.

The city of Kuala Lumpur is fantastic – it simply never sleeps. Driving through it at midnight, construction workers continue to work, restaurants and nightclubs are abuzz, and shoppers hit the malls.

The public transport system in Kuala Lumpur is world-class, with buses and taxis.

The fastest and cheapest, however, is the monorail and the locals use motorbikes.

The nightlife in Kuala Lumpur is spectacular, with streets dedicated to nightclubs, bars and restaurants.

The seedy side of this city can be seen in the sex workers in search of clients. They line the streets outside the nightspots. - SAMEER NAIK, Saturday Star
