Beijing - A 73-year-old holidaymaker went to drastic lengths to get home after he was separated from his tour group at Beijing’s Forbidden City.

Unable to find his tour guide and unable to find someone who spoke his dialect, the man decided to walk home to Zhejiang Province in eastern China – more than 1 500km south of the capital.

The man walked over six days before he was rescued by authorities in the city of Tianjin.

According to Shanghaiist, the man had little pocket money, used the sun as a navigational tool and slept on the side of the road at night.

He appeared to be in a state of heavy confusion when police found him, the website added.

Chinese news site Sohu.com said the man’s feet were covered with blisters.
