Paris - France's best-loved museums - the Palace of Versailles, the Louvre Museum and the Orsay Museum - will soon open seven days a week, the government announced.
The move, which aims to increase visitor numbers and which is to be phased in by 2017, is included in the 2015 draft budget.
The Palace of Versailles and the Orsay Museum currently close on Monday, while the Louvre closes on Tuesday - a factor of irritation for tourists from some countries, such as the United States and Britain, where major museums open daily.
The Louvre is the world's most popular museum with more than 9 million visitors in 2013.
Like most Paris museums, visitors usually have to queue for entry. - Sapa-dpa
