London - London is the city that has everything. But now it boasts an attraction even the most demanding tourist would be surprised to find — a winery that will make you feel as though you’ve just stepped off the ferry in France.

London Cru was set up by Australian Gavin Monery in a former gin distillery near Earls Court.

The grapes are grown in France and Italy and, just two hours after being picked, travel to the UK on refrigerated lorries.

Monery went through 17 tons of chardonnay, syrah, cabernet sauvignon and barbera grapes last year, and aims to have made 2 500 cases of wine by the end of 2014, doubling last year’s production.

Tours and tastings are on offer and the winery is also available for hire for events.

The £15 (about R300) wines are on sale from September 22 (londoncru.co.uk), and Marks & Spencer will be selling a special blend in selected stores from September 28. - Daily Mail
