La Paz - The world's highest skatepark has opened in the Bolivian Andes Mountains.

The 1 000-square-metre park is located in the Pura Pura nature reserve, north of La Paz at 3 600 meters above sea level.

About 100 volunteers from 17 countries helped build the park in the past few months.

“The volunteers are all skaters who are familiar with architecture and construction,” local sports director Jannet Ferrufino said in the El Dia newspaper.

“With their experience as skaters, they know how the ramps and obstacles should be. That's what makes this place so special.” - Sapa-dpa
