ALLEGED underworld kingpin,Nafiz Modack’s “security manager” has been granted R20 000 bail after he had apparently threatened a police officer, claiming a million rand had been paid for his assassination.
The Directorate of Priority Crimes Investigation, the Hawks, said Petrus Hermanus Visser, 30, was a security manager for Modack.
Colonel Katlego Mogale said Visser had handed himself over to the Hawks following a warrant which was issued for his arrest two weeks ago.
Visser was granted R20 000 bail at the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
Police had searched his home in Parow on several occasions but were unable to locate him.
Mogale said in January, a police captain received a threatening telephone call in which the caller claimed R1 million had been paid for his assassination.
The police officer opened a case of intimidation at Bellville police station and through an investigation, the Hawks were led to Visser’s home and workplace.
Mogale added Visser was given strict bail conditions.
“Thorough investigation and information led the Hawks to Visser's workplace and residence. The case against him is postponed to 7 April, 2021, and his bail has strict conditions for him to adhere to.”
Mogale said that Visser needed to hand over his passport and inform the detective of any travel plans outside of the province and to report to the nearest police station as part of his bail conditions.
Yesterday, Modack told Weekend Argus he would not comment on his security manager’s arrest.
Last week, Daily Voice reported that Modack said he had opened a case of intimidation against the Hawks, claiming they tried to extort R1 million from him.
Modack previously claimed in a court affidavit that he was just a businessman and was happily married.
He claimed he had been approached by a senior police officer who wanted R250 000 in order to secure the arrest of Jerome “Donkie” Booysen and keep him behind bars.
Booysen, Mark Lifman and 13 others are facing charges relating to Brian Wainstein’s murder of 2017 including conspiracy to commit murder and money laundering.
In court documents its alleged Lifman ordered a hit on Modack, Booysen’s brother, Colin Booysen, Carl Lakay, Ashley Fields, Emile Goodley and James Dalton, the former Springbok rugby player.
Modack said to Daily Voice that a day before Zane Kilian appeared in the Bellville Regional Court for his bail hearing, he had been contacted by the Hawks.
He alleged they wanted R500 000 from him to ensure Kilian was released on bail but that he refused.
He said he had opened a case at Bothasig police station for intimidation by the Hawks.
Kilian is the prime suspect in the murder case of top cop, Charl Kinnear.
Kilian’s bail judgment is expected to take place on March 18.
