Johannesburg - Kalawa Jazmee has signed all the top five finalists from the last season of Idols South Africa.

This week, the talented singers will be getting a taste of what the industry is really like by taking part in a 10-day boot camp.

“After witnessing the amount of talent in season 16 of Idols, Kalawa decided to sign all five. In the past seasons, winners of the reality show have struggled to maintain brand presence after the competition,” said Brenda Sekgota, PR and media manager.

“As a record company to ensure longevity of their brands as artists, and easy transition within the industry, we are holding a 10-day #LegendsInTheMaking boot camp,” Sekgota said.

During the boot camp, the new artists will be based in one location where they will “record new sound” and take part in workshops hosted by industry professionals, who will also share tips on how to sustain their brands in the industry.

“We started yesterday with a briefing and many activities will take place over the course of the week. We are looking at doing workshops with artists who already have a presence in the industry, more especially female artists who have made the industry work for them.”

With the industry still being maledominated, Sekgota said, successful artists including DJ Zinhle, Busiswa and Nokwazi, would be on hand to speak to the talented five on how to really make it in the industry.

“This boot camp is a way to induct the signed top five Idols into the Kalawa Jazmee way. We have a wellknown track record of producing hits, and our approach is to develop talent from the ground up, connecting them with the ’street’ authentically,” said Oscar “Oskido” Mdlongwa.

He added that the boot camp would produce “nothing but the best music” out of the process.

The five Idols new artists are Zama Khumalo (overall winner), ZanoThando, Brandon, Mr Music and Ndoni, who wowed the audience every time they performed on stage.

“For the boot camp, the sessions will vary depending on what is going on on that day. Every day will have something different. It won’t just be training. Sometimes they will be jamming to their own music and at other

times they will be feeding off each other creatively. As artists they all have different strengths and this gives them a chance to make music the way they want to,” said Sekgota.
