PRETORIA - JSE-listed City Lodge Hotels group has opened its 147-room Town Lodge Windhoek hotel in Namibia, which forms part of the group’s R1bn expansion into Africa launched in 2015.

It is one of four new hotels to be opened by the group this year and next year. Clifford Ross, chief executive of City Lodge, said yesterday that the group’s newest hotel in Windhoek added another important element to its targeted expansion programme in southern and east Africa.

The Town Lodge Windhoek was developed on a land and building lease and the ultimate capital cost to the group was between R35million and R45m for fittings.

Other projects in City Lodge’s African expansion plan include investments of about $17.5m in a City Lodge hotel in Maputo, $19m in the 172-room City Lodge Hotel Two Rivers in Nairobi and $17.5m in the 147-room City Lodge Hotel Dar es Salaam in Tanzania.

The City Lodge Hotel Two Rivers in Nairobi is expected to open soon, the City Lodge Hotel Dar es Salaam early next year and the City Lodge Hotel Maputo in the middle of next year. The Town Lodge Windhoek is the 13th Town Lodge in the group and 58th hotel in the group, which also owns and operates the Fairview Hotel, Courtyard Hotel, City Lodge Hotel and Road Lodge brands.
