Apple Event: Phone specs, Watch 3 series and more

CAPE TOWN - The announcements were made for the first time from the new Steve Jobs theater, in Cupertino, California where Apple has announced its 10-year-anniversary iPhone X.

The starting price is $999 (R13 000).

The iPhone X pronounced "iPhone 10" will feature Super Retina Display on its almost boarder-less screen.

It is water and dust resistant and you can get the phone in the following colours: space grey and silver. 

Multi tasking on the phone is super efficient, by swiping in different directions on the device. 

Apple no longer uses the home button on the X device and features Face ID and facial recognition technology to unlock the device.

The company promised that Face ID will protect facial data captured on the iPhone X and said that there was a one-in-million chance that a 'random person' could unlock a user's iPhone X using their face. 

The iPhone X will be priced at $999 (R13 000) and will be available from November this year 2017.

The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus were promised to have the highest video capability in a smartphone, according to Apple. 

The phone will retail from $699 (R 9000) with the 8 Plus from $799 (R10 000) and comes in 64GB and 256GB.  

It also features newly animated emojis that mimic your facial expressions with an application called, Animoji. 

The new phone features a 12-megapixel rear shooter and optical image stabilization, additional colour filters, a new sensor and software tweaks that make it easier to adjust lighting effects.

The iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus will be available in silver, space grey and a gold finish. 

It also features new stereo speakers along with a new chip called, A11 Bionic chip. 

According to the company, it is "the most powerful chip ever in a smart phone.It also features iOS 11, which features new animated emojis, more languages with Siri's translation services and a refreshed Control Center menu. 

A new 4K Apple TV which will feature live sports, also has both 4K resolution and HDR support. 

This means it can work with the latest TVs, projectors and content formats for better pictures, brighter colours and generally improved visuals. 

These features are not brand new to the tech world, Apple is catching up and it allows streaming customers to have more options. 

A new Apple Watch Series 3, now has cellular capabilities.  

According to Cook, The Apple Watch is currently the number 1 watch in the world with 97% customer satisfaction. 

It has upgraded systems that now monitor a resting heart rate, recovery heart rate and identify arrhythmia (a condition in which the heart beats with an irregular or abnormal rhythm).

So it can monitor irregular heartbeats while the wearer is sitting down.  It will be available September 19, says Apple Jeff Williams. It also has a new dual-core processor with 70% better performance says Apple COO, Jeff Williams
