Get paid R1 million with these public sector jobs

DURBAN - The Public Servants Collective Bargaining Council (PSCBC) has released their latest salary scales that shows the salaries of their members who work in the health, engineering and other associated fields in South Africa for 2018. 

The document has been released after a long negotiation period with the government where the wage increases for the next three years needed to be settled amid economic and financial restrictions being felt by the National Treasury. 

Listed amongst the many jobs on the list are 40 job types that have a high earning power, bringing in more than R1 million annually, however, it depends on grade and level of pay. 

Most of the jobs on the list are from the medical and technical fields (engineering) or management positions. 

The high-paying jobs in the public sector can be split into two categories:

1. Jobs that have a starting salary of R1 million and more 

2. Jobs that have the potential to get paid over R1 million with time and experience. 

Below are two tables that highlight both categories:

Jobs that have a starting salary of R1 million or more

These jobs require specialist training or technical skills in a specific field. 

Medical officers are generally paid well in the public sector, but the salaries that are featured below also apply for those specialising in dentistry, pharmacology and stomatology (indicated with a *).

The jobs that are listed in the table show the highest earning potential for these occupations. The starting salaries for the jobs below R1 million, they do have the potential to increase to more than R1 million.

R1 million jobs that are in high demand

The Department of Education and Training has released their list of the jobs that are in high demand and nine of them pay more than R1 million. 

The Department of Education and Training list of jobs that are in high demand featured more than 370 jobs. Like the jobs that have a starting salary of more than R1 million, these are highly specialised. 

Some of the jobs that are included on the list include Chief Information Officer, Senior Engineering Manager, and Application Development Manager.
