Altech Alcom Matomo, a subsidiary of JSE-listed Allied Electronics (Altron), has secured a R1.2 billion tender to build, operate and maintain the broadband network for 316 Gauteng provincial government-owned buildings and 20 priority townships over the next five years. The tender includes provision of broadband fibre-optic access to 45 Thusong centres, formerly known as multi-purpose community centres, nine economic zones and six urban renewal nodes in the province. The solution will provide voice and data services for more than 130 000 Gauteng civil servants. The shares of Altron gained 1.29 percent to R24.91 yesterday. – Asha Speckman
