Robert Diamond has named former Barclays colleague John Vitalo as chief executive of his African financial services company, Atlas Mara Co-Nvest. Before joining Barclays, Vitalo ran Absa Capital, the investment banking arm of the South African lender Barclays bought control of in 2005. Since 2009 Vitalo had been Barclays’s Middle East and North Africa chief executive, Atlas Mara said yesterday. Vitalo will lead Atlas Mara’s group executive committee, which includes the head of strategy, Jyrki Koskelo, and Doug Munatsi, the chief executive of BancABC, which Atlas Mara agreed to acquire last week. The company said on Monday that it was buying a stake in the Development Bank of Rwanda. – Bloomberg
